Pros: Talking Dictionary is a speech enabled 250,000 word English dictionary and thesaurus. Talking Dictionary has been designed for use by visually challenged people also. All of the controls have easily remembered keyboard shortcuts besides all the text on the interface can be switched to large in a click. It uses built in speech or existing screen reader. Talking Dictionary is designed to be used as a stand alone program. What this means is that you do not need any kind of screen reading software or anything else to use this program. Your PC must run Windows 95 or greater and you must have a sound card or speakers. Talking Dictionary has been tested and is digitally signed for use on personal computers running Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows Millennium Edition, Windows 2000 and the Windows 95/98. It has been optimized for Windows Vista and Windows XP. All of the 250,000 word entries are fully browsable Word list is browsable like an electronic book.. Database includes place names, historical figures, slang and jargon. It can be used with other programs or as a standalone program as well as from within other Windows programs, such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Notepad, etc. An improved spell checker can search for words even when letters are missing from the input. For partially sighted users the text size can easily be adjusted. Annotations can be made to any word entry thereby facilitating personal notes onto the word meaning. The dictionary also comes complete with a “getting started” tutorial which gives you examples of using the dictionary. Comprehensive help is also built into the product.
Cons: Nothing particularly problematic found.
Overall: Very nice program that’s easy to use. It is a 4 star application without a doubt.
